Stereotype of the Month Entry
(10/21/07)

Another Stereotype of the Month entry:

Dear Blue Corn,

One of the members of my yahoo group posted this and I think it deserves to be in the Hall of Shame — it's a list of videos that You Tube refuses to take off the net. Natives seem to have been complaining about them for about a year and a half. All You Tube will do is put up a page that makes you verify your age so young kids don't see these. They're pretty disgusting.

Rob's comment
YouTube has flagged only the Native American Apparel video as potentially offensive to viewers. But all the videos arguably convey stereotypical images of Indians. In particular, they convey the idea of a Indian woman ("squaw") as a second-class citizen or sex object.
