Terrorism:  "Good" vs. "Evil"
(9/17/01)

Another response to Terrorism:  "Good" vs. "Evil":

Rob,

You have put your time and energy over the past few days to good use. I'm reading another one of your excellent articles again http://www.bluecorncomics.com/terror.htm regreting that it had to be written in the first place.

Why do Americans fail to realize this boiling hatred for Arabs and the hate for Islam which is coming out across the country is part of the proof the terrorist is looking for? How are we going to handle the news that some of these folks are going to be American citizens of some kind?

The call for war and the clean hands American hope to bomb them into eternity approach didn't work in Vietnam. So many want a war....The carpet bombing and free fire zones of South Vietnam recruited more soldiers against us than benefits. They built our own defeat out of the damage we caused.

We never overcame them because we were culturally so backward and unable to understand or relate to people who are different from us we never had a chance to or intended to help anyone in the region. We only knew how to force our agenda, never had a clue how to integrate with those who are different.

Despite the fact that we poured millions of pounds of armament on the land and lavished money upon people in the area to feed and maintain the governments of our allies, we lost a war. It was lost because we never understood the people who we pressed into having a grevience against us.

I don't know if many will think the use was "good," but I did put my time and energy into it over the past few days. And more time and energy will be necessary, alas.

Because it's part of the American culture to be ignorant, myopic, and shortsighted.

Stay tuned for Vietnam II.

Yes.
