Stereotype of the Month Entry
(1/17/01)

Another Stereotype of the Month entry:

From Indianz.com:

Police searches hit Natives

A report by the Washington state police shows that Native Americans, African-Americans, and Hispanics pulled over by police are more than twice as likely to be forced to submit to a search than whites.

Yet of all drivers pulled over and searched, police found contraband on a larger percentage of whites than non-whites. State troopers found contraband on 33 percent of whites searched compared to 22 percent for minorities.

Minorities were 16 percent of all traffic stops but 26 percent of all searches, according to the report.

Rob's comment
The stereotype here is that minorities, including Indians, are more likely to be criminals.
