Adolf Hitler:  A True American
(7/30/01)

Another response to Adolf Hitler:  A True American:

>> i really love your work and the irregulars. thanks for that! <<

I'm glad you like them!

>> as many people think hitler was responsible as a person than think native americans were brave, wild, long-haired, tipi-people tragicially (but rightly) doomed to die out and are extinguished today. <<

Right. That view was common among the more "enlightened" people of the 19th century—the ones who weren't overtly racist. One might answer, "Who says they were doomed?" I just read that a chief named White Eyes asked the United States to establish a state for Indians. That was a reasonable solution and it could've worked. Instead, white settlers killed White Eyes because they wanted the land.

Sure, it would've taken a strong leader to stand up to the hordes of Americans who thought it was their manifest destiny to overrun the Indians and possess the continent. So? Lincoln fought the Civil War to keep the nation from dividing itself. FDR committed the US to World War II rather than let Hitler win. Eisenhower sent the National Guard to integrate Southern schools. Brave, farsighted leaders do the right thing, not the simple or expedient thing.

>> very interestingly, (the more serious branches of) astrology carve out a profile from the symbols (of hitler´s horoscope) that is astonishingly EMPTY, like a vessel ready to take up all contemporary evil from under the floor and behind frustrated civilized masks <<

I don't know much about Hitler, so I'll take your word for it. I will say that I believe he was more a product of his culture and upbringing than a lone madman. A pure psycho like Charles Manson doesn't rise to the top of the heap. Hitler's views had to resonate with millions for him to succeed.

>> i am reading a scientific approach to the indian cliché and racism in general in germany at the moment, and it´s interesting and totally frustrating as to my personal impression of the mental / human state of whites. <<

Blame it on the culture, not the race. I sometimes write about "white America," but by that I mean the majority group, the powers that be. Some in this group may be blacks, Latinos, Jews, et al., but that doesn't negate the overall point. In general, white people are in charge and determine our culture. So my references to "white America" really mean the culture instigated and dominated by whites.

>> as my day gets more and more native american dominated (homepage on n.a. music, german calendar of any events and n.a. links germany and usa; but this is only one means), i become more and more confronted with the inhuman racist stereotype thinking here (my name is associated with "indians" immediately). and people don´t even have a clue they are talking about their own defects instead of a "race" that doesn´t even exist (not in the way it is reflected). <<

As I wrote in Culture and Comics Need Multicultural Perspective, people are blind to their own cultural biases.

Incidentally, I visited your site. Looks like it's still under construction, although the music section is substantial. If you haven't linked to www.bluecorncomics.com, feel free to do so!

>> i´m glad that people like you exist, rob. your work is really great. your mails, personal or automatic, are most welcome. <<

Thanks. You're welcome to get your friends to sign up for Indian Comics Irregular, too. The more people who spread my messages, the better!

Rob
