The Nazi-Style WW II Memorial
(6/7/01)

Here's the opinion of one WW II-era person on The Nazi-Style WW II Memorial...Mom!

I certainly agree with you about the WWII memorial. My one-word description is fascistic--if there is such a word. I doubt that it would have been approved in the current format without the pressure and fund-raising efforts of Bob Dole. I don't see the rush to have it built before all WWII vets are dead. Whenever it is built, it will honor all--and any memorial honors everyone, dead or alive. Better to get it right than rush this location and design.

Considering the whole point of the so-called "greatest generation" was not self-glorification, Mom's view seems apt. People are pushing through this particular memorial as a politically correct stunt, not because the WW II generation is clamoring for it.

If you want respect for our WW II-era elders, respect my mother's view and do as she says. Remember, Mom knows best!
