Stereotype of the Month Entry
(5/28/00)

Another response to the Stereotype of the Month entry on Howard Stern, Son of a Beach:

>> When I remember to watch "Son of the Beach" it seems to me that the writers are pushing envelopes, and are doing a lot more to poke fun at stereotypes than to continue them. <<

If you or anyone read my original posting, you'd know I took a nuanced look at Stern's Native American episode. In brief, he poked fun at some Native stereotypes and perpetuated others. It would take a discriminating viewer to note the difference.

>> That's not the perception I'm getting from this thread. Am I missing something? <<

The thread diverged from the original posting, as threads often do.
