Outside the So-Called Ethnic Box
(8/9/00)

Another response to Outside the So-Called Ethnic Box:

I'm not sure what you're asking. If minorities are doing what...balkanizing America?

If they were balkanizing America, which they aren't, I wouldn't worry about it. From what I've seen, America's minorities (including Native Americans) have values at least as good as America's majority. If minorities become the majority—as they will eventually, according to Census projections—I think our country will become a more livable, humane place.

I'm not planning to have children myself, so I'm not worried about my "seed" either. But I have two nephews who are half-Latino. If you're suggesting I should worry about the dilution of my family's "white blood," I say who cares? Really. Give me one logical reason why I should care about my relatives' ethnicity.
