Navajos in spelling bees
Lots of memories for Navajo Nation spelling champIt seems that, no matter how long ago a spelling bee was, each participant remembers the word he went out on.
Navajo Times publisher Tom Arviso Jr. remembers, years ago, messing up "eighteenth."
Ed Low, now a judge at the Scripps National Spelling Bee and a professor emeritus of English, missed "opportunity."
The word that will forever stick in the mind, and the craw, of Navajo Nation spelling champ Natasha Begay is "criterion."
