Yakama promotes basketball league
Tribal conference boasts all-star appealEvery year, tribal leaders and members from the 54 Northwest tribes belonging to the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians gather in Portland to discuss topics ranging from tribal business to law and justice and welfare.
But this year, the Yakama Nation decided to host the three-day conference, which begins Tuesday, at the Yakima Convention Center in conjunction with the all-star game at the SunDome in hopes of generating interest in the CBA, said Yakama legislative liaison Matt Tomaskin.
The tribe bought the Sun Kings more than three years ago, and would like to see the basketball league garner more support, he said.
