Native teens express themselves
Native Students Raise Their VoicesWhat if there was a way to find out what's going on with Native American teenagers: What are they thinking? How are they expressing themselves artistically?
The Santa Fe Indian School's Arts Fests offers that unique opportunity tonight. It's an evening of performances of writing, storytelling, music, singing, dancing, rhyming, DJing, film, visual art and intersections of art forms.
While it's a chance for the students to express themselves, "it's also important to have the community come in," said Tim McLaughlin, creative writing teacher and sponsor of the school's nationally recognized Spoken Word Club.
