Rob in Indianapolis
I'm blogging from Indianapolis now. Our program on "Native American Portrayals in Comics" at the Eiteljorg Museum went off without a hitch and a good time was had by all. We saw a lot of stereotypical images in comics and said many important things about the medium. In the next few weeks, you'll see articles about the event and pictures of the event, the museum, and downtown Indianapolis.
Incidentally, a local paper called the program the No. 1 top pick for "arts and culture events in Indy this week." It illustrated this choice with the PEACE PARTY mini-poster and labeled the panelists "industry experts." Cool.

POSTSCRIPTUM -- Omigod, Rob, you missed it! Why aren't you downtown loudly and vociferously lobbying the city government to change its name to NovaMundianapolis? Talk about stereotypical names!!

I didn't see any Paddlety paintings, but I wasn't looking that closely at the labels.
I believe Indiana got its name because it was once considered the Wild West--aka Indian country.

Unlike Nebraska or Oklahoma or even the Dakotas, however, Indiana was not so named by Natives or from Native words. It as easily could be Columbiana or EuroManiana for all that the word truly means.
writerfella remembers the Jay Ward (THE ROCKY & BULLWINKLE SHOW)TV cartoons bout Tom Slick, a race car driver. A now-wealthy casino tribe (in the 1960s, no less!) was the sponsor of a major auto race in which Tom Slick is participating. The tribe once raised apples as its major crop but almost starved one year when heavy frosts wiped out their orchards. They then became the Apple-Less Indians and their major racing event thus was known as The Apple-Less Indian 500...
