Indian culture is hip
From the Durham Herald-Sun, 2/18/07:
Celebration of culture has 'wow' factorAsk Amber Richardson whether American Indian culture is "hip" and she'll smile and confidently answer, "I think so."
Richardson, 17, of Hollister, not only is a first-year student at the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics, she took part in the annual powwow at the school's physical education complex.
Richardson said she made her heritage known to others. The first week at the school others wondered, "Well, what is she?" she said, and she's been telling them about her tribe, the Haliwa-Saponi, ever since. "And they're really interested and they like it," she said.
