Looks more like an online comic book than an actual cartoon? From the title, I expected either a lost episode or a continuation of the actual Filmation cartoons from the 1970s.

Always wanted to meet 'anonymous.' There are so many works credited to you.
Russell Bates here. "The Patient Parasites" IS a lost episode as the teleplay from which it is adapted was done for the series in 1973 but returned to me because it was deemed to be more a STAR TREK adventure than an animation story. But once fully 'fleshed' as a comic, it reveals itself to be a STAR TREK story that would have supported itself as an animated film.
By the bye, this teleplay has also been adapted for live film and will be presented later this year as an episode of the internet television series, STAR TREK EXCALIBUR, with new characters and a new starship.

Hi, Russell!
Yep, "anonymous" does a lot of posting here. I wonder why people don't use their first names, at least.
I didn't say the new episode was itself animated. It's an online comic-book version of the animated series done in the style of the series. Okay?
I'm curious: Who paid the artist for this project? Or was everyone a volunteer? Are there any other new or lost episodes, or is this it?
P.S. If you missed Russell's comment on my previous Star Trek posting, look it up in the archive.

Rob (and others), know that the Animated STAR TREK series exists in both media now, film animation and comic book 'graphic novel' artwork. The series and its concepts will outlive us all. Any who doubt that, please name another TV series that has lasted 40 years in the viewing public's minds? I'll give you a minute, no, two minutes by my watch. Hmm, hmm, hmm, dum-dum-da-da-da-dum, okay time's up.
Yes, you were correct in your presentation. That you were misconstrued was not your fault. Literality and literally are not the same quantities.
Now, Paramount Studios and Paramount Television set rigidly enforced guidelines about copyrighted materials and thus it is that they only allow parallel TV or graphic presentations IF NO ONE MAKES ANY MONEY FROM THE PROJECTS. That way, they protect their copyrights from entrance into the public domain and they get free publicity because the STAR TREK name is kept before the public at no cost to the studio.
Thus, all the participants (myself included) make no money whatsoever and our efforts exist from sheer devotion to the concepts. STAR TREK got me started as a writer, and so I cannot argue with the principle. Someday, the entire story of my 'accidental' involvement with the ST series and how it began my 30+ years of a career in writing Sci-Fi for print and film, will be told. Hopefully, it will be myself who tells that story...

Rob --
At this point, there are no 'new' episodes of an animated version of STAR TREK. However, there may be other 'lost episodes' because D. C. Fontana, the story editor for theanimated series, may have turned aside other scripts besides "The Patient Parasites."
However again, since STAR TREK 10 is on the books as a new motion picture, it will be some time before it is filmed and released, at least until winter '07 or spring '08. In the meantime, since STAR TREK ENTERPRISE failed and was cancelled, the only thing left would possibly be a new animated series, based on The Original Series or ST: The Next Generation. In ensuing months, we should know what they decide.
The ST concept has been with us for 40 years. Therefore, it is not going to disappear tomorrow...

writer: Thanks for filling us in on the background of this worthy effort.
"Name another TV series that has lasted 40 years in the viewing public's mind"? Um, Meet the Press? The Guiding Light? The Tonight Show?
Anyway, thanks for the info. I'm a huge fan of the original Trek, as you may or may not know.
"Dr Who" is another TV series that has lasted 40 years in the viewing public's mind. It first debuted in 1963, making it older than "Star Trek". It has had its hiatuses (hiatii?), but so has "Star Trek".
As for this comic, I've never read a web comic before. I'm going to make this one my first.
Good job, all around! It was almost like seeing one of the animated episodes for real. For one thing, the original animated episodes were not that animated (not a lot of motion), so still comic panels are not that far off. For another, my mind had no problem filling in the sound of the voices and the appropriate sound effects.
One minor comment: the Native character mentioned his ancestors' beliefs concerning eclipses. These views happen to be extremely common among others cultures as well.
I'll get an account soon. I tried yesterday, and all the names I tried were taken already.
